Langton Green

Langton - sign

A shelf layout, 8'6" long by 12" wide (reducing to 6" at the left hand end).  It is mounted on a wall at chest hight, so the scenery and detailing need to bare close scrutiny!

No particular theme was specified as my client intends running both steam and modern image, but my use of BR Southern Region green reflects his home locality.    The village of Langton Green never had a station of it's own, being half way between the stations of Tunbridge Wells West and Groombridge on the Kent/Sussex border, so this is a 'might-have-been' layout.   The old LB&SCR line from Tunbridge Wells West to Groombridge now forms the Spa Valley Railway.

Trackwork is Peco (Code 100 to permit use of pre 1980 stock).   The four large-radius points are operated by Tortoise point motors.

For the Trees on this layout I have used Sea Moss.  Tree foliage and shrubs are a combination of Heki and Green Scene products, and the grass is Green Scene Meadowgrass.   Note that there are a number of 'dead' trees amongst the live ones - sea moss is ideal for dead or winter trees!

The Signal and Loading Gauge are Ratio kits - the former is not operational.   The working Station Lights are Viessmann, painted BR green.

The Buildings -  the station building, loco shed and signal box are off-the-shelf items, sadly no longer available, and the goods shed and water tower are Town Street kits.   All the retaining walls and the road bridge and tunnel entrance were made using Wills materials and kits.

Detail -
The station signs are by Stationsigns and the enamel adverts by Tiny Signs (Gaugemaster).   Station seats, barrows and bicycle are from the Shire Scenes range.  The wheelbarrow is Langley
